Funeral Caisson

One Last Run

A few years ago some of the Fire Museum’s volunteers proposed converting an old fire truck into a hearse. After a year’s work, they completed restoration of a 1980 American LaFrance pumper. The result is the Fire Museum’s fire truck funeral caisson. Originally used by the Fairview Fire Department, the Fire Museum’s funeral caisson has since carried more than 35 deceased firefighters on their Last Run.

The funeral caisson is an exclusive service offered first to firefighters in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Summit, Portage, Geauga, and Lake counties. In addition to firefighters, the funeral caisson may also be reserved for deceased uniformed public servants including active and retired military.

To reserve the caisson families are asked to make a $450 donation to the Fire Museum.*

For those firefighters who are looking down the road, planning their last run, advance arrangements may be made directly with their funeral director.

Funeral directors and/or firefighters and their families may arrange to use the funeral caisson by calling retired firefighter Dan Hayden at (440) 537-2939.

*Due to the cost of fuel and maintenance additional fees may apply for services outside of Cuyahoga County. Contact the Fire Museum for more details.
